Village Life

It takes coming somewhere like this to make you realise how much you have. The luxury that you live in, the comfort. But it also makes you acutely aware of what your life lacks. And what the villagers have here, I CRAVE.

Noone locks the door. And this isn't because there's nothing inside worth stealing- there is. There is just no need. The sense of community is enormous. There's a laid back, slow pace to the day. The people smile a lot. The kids run wild and free, each member of the community always there keeping an eye. They never seem to get bored of certain things- they clearly still enjoy the trips down the river to work for example, even though they have done it thousands of times.

They understand and cherish their surroundings. Today one of the guides showed us different trees or plants that provide drinking water (we had a taste!), antiseptic, soothe burns, edible flowers (tasted!). They know the names of the trees and can climb them with ridiculous skill. They can SMELL when elephants or monkeys have been nearby, even from the river.

There is respect and love shown here, for each other, for the forest and for us, Silly Western tourists.

I love it. Can I move in please?
