Alas no mountain....

....illness strikes! After the 7 hour bus ride to Mt Kinabalu Tamara and Laur were hit by food poisoning, probably caused by food in Stinky Semporna.

Me and Chris left them in the hostel for a while to go on a beautiful rainforest trail but when we returned Tamara was much better but poor old Laura was still suffering. We are heading back on the bus to our village so she can get some much needed R +R and Chris is tackling the mountain alone. I'm sure he will make some mountain buddies very quickly, he is one funny guy! Gotta love the Swiss Cheese!

Worry not please Corrigan Clan, she is on the mend, I'm taking care of her and we have a doctor on hand at the village to give her the once over once we get there.

There was no internet access at the glamorous (NOT!) hostel hence the lack of updates.

But the view from the hostel? Well. Behold!!

(And a pic of what entertainment was on offer on the bus. Karaoke. I kid ye not!!! Godawful Malaysian music that is a bizarre combination of heavy metal power ballads and Euro pop. And the videos are piss funny. Imagine long haired Malaysian metallers rocking out with BALLOONS at a fricken kids party and you're there. No sex, drugs and rock n roll in Muslim metal, boi!!)

    1. Thank you Mum!

And thank you too Mr V! The first homestay we lived in was right next to the mosque with the loudspeaker pointing right into our bedroom- that took some getting used to (!) But we are now settled into and enjoying the Muslim way. The villagers are very devout and committed to Islam and are the kindest people I have ever met.

The work they do here is amazing, I will definitely bring contacts home. Thank you so much for your support xx

  3. Also - I hope you didn't find my last couple of posts offensive! Got a bit carried away on the alcohol when we left the village and didn't think clearly who might be reading this! Apologies! Offensive language removed!
