Pee Pee Malaysian Style!

So, I'm sure some of you out there are wondering about the toilet situation here in the village. Well, it varies from homestay to homestay. Most have a separate long drop toilet with another room to 'shower', some have an actual western style toilet but these rarely flush and are emptied by the poo fairies, some have the shower and toilet in the same room.

One thing is for sure, there will be a pair of communal flip flops at the door to be worn as you enter. These are generally very wet, feel somewhat slimy and are less than inviting! But they stop the giant ants from nipping your toes so all's good!

So. Shower. This means a bucket of water from the river with a scoop. But do not underestimate the wonder of the bucket shower. Oh no, they feel awesome after the sweat that precedes them. I have come to love the bucket shower.

Rainwater is gathered for drinking in big tanks and boiled. Water for bathing is from the river and brown in colour. But it gets you clean! Or is that not a sun tan I have? Har. Ahem.

So there you go! You have to use your left hand for wiping/washing as there is rarely loo roll and you eat with your right hand sans cutlery. Sounds very unhygienic but it really doesn't seem to be. We haven't been ill once whilst in the village.

It's all part of the cultural experience, baby!

Can't quite get the knack of eating rice with my fingers though!!
